I have a Compaq laptop from windows XP and I’m not sure how to delete things permanently from my PC. If I go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and Disk Cleanup then I cleanup C Disk, does it take it off permanently? I’m kind of iffy about going to websites and downloading things to erase things, because it ends up getting half way there and you have to pay for it. So I’m just wondering about the Disk Cleanup, And also if your a great computer Wiz what does a disk defragmenter do?

when i remove it it keeps coming back it’s in my fire wall telling me i have a virus and blocking web pages /my pc has windows xp

I have a samsung microphone that i use on my cell phone and i just got a new one and dont need it for my phone anymore, so i was wondering if it is possible to use the microphone on my computer. My computer is windows xp. The plug on the microphone is too small to put into my microphone jack on my computer, since it is for a phone. I need to bring in my computer to get a new motherboard…before I do that I need to back everything up…I went to the Microsoft website and followed the directions, I went to accessories, and then system tools. However, there was no option for back up as there should have been. I can have them back it up when I bring it to Best Buy but I would like to avoid the 0 if possible…All I am worried about backing up are my documents and pictures…aside from that I don’t believe I need to back anything else up because it should be on my system recovery disk, correct? I have a headset microphone that plugs into my computer via the plug ins in the back of my computer. It isn’t a USB microphone. I have tried the microphone on my laptop and it works fine so I know it’s not faulty. But when I try it on my regular computer it won’t work. I am pretty sure it is plugged in properly. My sound card is a SoundMAX High Definition sound card. I am running Windows XP SP2. I’ve tried EVERYTHING and it still doesn’t work. How can I get this to work? I will have a link showing the microphone at the bottom.

aight, i am going to buy a miniDV very soon and Im pretty sure that miniDVs don’t come standard with the accessories u need to transfere videos from it to a computer. What accessories do i need to buy.

I’m looking to replace my laptop hard drive disc(HDD) completely and reinstall XP on it. This will undoubtedly remove the drivers. If I go to drivers.com, will it seek out the drivers on my computer and replace them?

I bought this computer third-hand and I do not have the restore disc for the laptop. All I got with it is the computer itself, a battery, and the power cord. When I replace the HDD, I will be updating the memory to 3gig(maybe 5), putting in a 360gig HDD and putting Windows XP Home edition on it.

Will I have to worry about more than drivers to make my touchpad, nub, infrared, CD burner, ports, and other assortment of accessories to work? What else should I expect in this endeavor? Should I have someone at Best Buy or a specialized computer place try this task? I am looking to return my computer to it’s original functionality after I give it this update.

The laptop I have is a Compaq, but I forget the model.

I have 1mb corporate pakage of dsl. My own pc having 2.8 ghz core 2 due processor, 1 gb of ram, 1 Tb of hard disk space, Running Windows xp sp2. What’s more I need to make my pc as web hosting server?

I was trying to clear some disk space and accidentally erased some Windows XP components. Such as games, calculator, paint, character map, and a few others. I use all that stuff, so I want it back really bad.

OK so my computer did this about 6 months ago and I haven’t really touched it since. I know a little about computers but I’m no wiz.

When I try and start my computer I get a black start up screen that says at the top: We are sorry for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
It then goes on to list the startup options (start in safe mode, start windows normally, etc.) All of those options take me to a blue screen error. It reads:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Check to make sure any hardware or software is properly installed…It then goes on to say:

i have a laptop running the windows xp home edition OS. i am currently having problems with the sound not working. having used the help and support from the start menu, i have noticed there is no volume control program present in start>programs>accessories>entertainment.

does anyone know if it is possible to reinstall this program, and if so, where would i find it?

Whenever I first boot up my computer and i get to the home screen, I try to open programs but none of them are responsive. The start menu is the only thing that will open but from there, nothing else will open, not even accessories under the start menu. Help me, i'm begging you!!! Hello, I am considering starting a website that will require a dedicated server the thing is that I would much much rather an unmanaged server to a managed one simply because a managed server is soo much more expensive.

The problem I have is that I have never before administered a server of my own with such depth and control over it and the extent of my knowledge is an account with a shared host.

The site will only be using a small php script and I couldn't imagine any intensive changes to the server ever being needed.

My question is would you recomend me getting an unmanaged server?

Are they difficult to administer?

Can you learn how to administer one just by having one?(exerience)

Are they as daunting as they sound?

Are there any guides out there for how to manage a fedora core 6 server with WHM and Cpanel? (Links Please)

How could someone administer a server without having a control panel(cpanel/whm)?
Sorry I was not trying to compare dedicated to shared but to give an example of the depth of my knowledge, although I have run a webserver before on my own computer it isn't quite the same because i am using windows xp.

The reason it needs to be dedicated is because the site will be cpu/ ram intensive. I dont want to go into detail about the site although I'm sure people can draw their own conclusion not that it is necessary.

Also where do people learn this stuff without going to an education establishment and taking a course in it?
