what is the best choice overall with special consideration to price. I’ve always just had regular cable and had many wonders about satellite for example how often does the sat go out during storms etc. What kind of contract am I getting into. Is satellite really the way to go? If so which company? I’m wanting HD tv also.
I see alot of "free this free that" but then it says in small text it’s only for 6 months. do you have to sign a contract for like a year comittment or anything?

I have 32 Bit Windows Vista Home Prem SP1. With Win Media Center I am trying to view TV programming on my PC using its own monitor as the TV display. This is a multimedia desktop (HP Paviliion) so it has all the goodies.
Before I proceed, I do NOT have cable, no satellite. With my regular TVs I get my programming from my rabbit ears. Also I’ve been hearing about a desktop box which I clearly don’t have.
So the question is, is there some way I can see TV programming on my PC with just regular TV antennas or do I need special antennas or this infamous desktop bo?. Cable and satellite are not options. Help!

So I want to record TV onto my laptop. I have Rogers Digital Cable and a Toshiba laptop (Satellite A300 special Edition) running Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Media Center. I says I need a TV tuner but after some research I learned that the cable box works as a tuner. Is this true?
If so, Im using an S-video cable to hook the box to my laptop and im plugging the audio cables into my microphone jack. Is this the configuration I need?
If that works, how to I set everything up to enable it to record, like how to I set up the path for the box to record to the laptop and do I need any software or anything for it?

I currently have a Galaxy 25 (i think now 19) satellite that has great arabic programming
I was wondering if there was any other FTA satellites that are available in USA have arabic channels. Could you give me a list of satellites that offer free programming in the Northeast USA? Lyngsat’s website is confusing.
galaxy 25 is at 97 west. thanks though.

It takes an RG-6 or Composite input, and can outpout to RG-6, Composite, or S-Video. And, it can control a cable box using either Serial or Infrared. What is special about satellite that prohibits the control of the box? Or, is it just the programming TiVo is locked out of picking up because of their divorce from Direct TV?

I ordered a new remote from Dish Network the other day for my second room because my first remote went to hell. When I got it I set it to my TV & it worked fine for that, but it will not do anything for the satellite. I tried new batteries & I even switched the little tab & tried it in the first room with the receiver & still no dice. I got a new remote for room 1 a couple of months ago & it worked as soon as I took it out of the box & put batteries in it.
Is there something special I have to do since this is a second room remote? Any suggestions?
Yes I did, thank you- I am not an idiot.

I have looked at DirecTV, Dish, and Globecast. They did not offer it so I'm wondering if anyone has any other suggestions. I already subscribe to Czech T V online, but I'd prefer to have it via satellite if possible. Thanks!
