Question about new digital tv boxes?
I just told our satellite company to stick it after signing a new contract and them jacking us around for the last 9 months. So, I’ve decided we don’t need anything at the moment since there’s no other specials with the other satellite company(we don’t get cable).
So, we’re very rural, and do not have a regular antenna on the house. If I get one of those digital boxes, will we still be able to watch local tv? Or do we need to have some kind of antenna or whatever outside? What do I need other then the digital box?
Thanks!
So like the old rabbit ears?
And tin foil? lol
New tv, so that’s not an issue. We’ve just always had satellite, so I never paid any attention to this whole digital tv conversion stuff, didn’t think it would matter to me…..
Stephen, that site tells me I’ll only get a PBS station lol….

Yes, you will need some sort of antenna and probably an external one with fairly high gain.
Put your address in this web site:
http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx
Then where it tells you the stations you can get, click on DIGITAL ONLY and then click on the link in the colored region which will tell you the suggested antenna types need to receive different stations. Figure out which stations you really want to get and then when you buy an antenna, buy one that meets those requirements. Your antenna will almost certainly require a rotor on it to aim also.
Well installing an antena outside would probably help, but you could buy a smaller antenna for cheaper and put it on top of your tv, but other than that you just need to get a digital box, a tv (obviously), and one of those two types of antennas.
Antennaweb is the best source to go to. If it tells you your only going to get PBS, it’s being conservative but you won’t get much more. I just checked a remote location that I know of and it says 2 station will come in. In fact, we get 4 but 2 of the 4 are PBS.
