Direct TV, Dish network or Cox Cable?

what is the best choice overall with special consideration to price. I’ve always just had regular cable and had many wonders about satellite for example how often does the sat go out during storms etc. What kind of contract am I getting into. Is satellite really the way to go? If so which company? I’m wanting HD tv also.
I see alot of "free this free that" but then it says in small text it’s only for 6 months. do you have to sign a contract for like a year comittment or anything?

I just bought a TV and got satellite (regular, not HD)…and I read that from my area that all of the local channels broadcast in HD as well. My satellite offers HD, but I really don’t feel like dishing out the 0 bucks for all 35 channels when all I really want is just the four locals. Someone mentioned I could buy something and it would retrieve them from the air….

If it exists, what is this "something" and where might I get it? How much might it be? Thank you!!!

It seems that the only adult programming available on DishNetwork Satellite TV is str8 oriented. All they have to offer in adult TV seems to be naked women. Is this a fact, or am I just not seeing the other choice.

My first thought was, of course not! After all, America is supposed to be the land of free speech and so on.

But when I thought about it some more, I remembered that the channel lineup back in Lebanon includes al-Manar TV, which is Hezbollah’s TV channel.

It’s nothing special; it’s mostly just advice shows and news brodcasts. But the neocon lobby went nuts in America back in 2004 and got it banned. If you are a satellite carrier or anything like that, it’s actually illegal for you to broadcast al-Manar into the US.

However, a Slingbox is not a commercial broadcast.

Would it be legal for me to use a Slingbox to watch TV from Lebanon even though al-Manar is included in the channel lineup?

I mean, you can watch al-Manar on their website, too, so, it shouldn’t be a big deal.

Need legal advice on Satellite TV?

ok. there is an organization operating from a country in Europe which advertises to the customers in US for providing television programming to the people in US. After the customer signs up for the programming, company sends the customer a cable box. Customer plugs the box into their internet router and boom they can watch their native tv programming. Latest problems have been that, after a month or so later some of the tv networks are being taken off the programming and they are being replaced by some other channel. Possibility of a channel could be taken off programming was never mentioned when the customer signed up for the service. And that possibility is still not being mentioned on their website. When contacted, companys’ response was that, "these things are bound to happen" ??? my question is that, why wasn’t that mentioned before i signed up? and i get no answer. I live in New York state, should i contact the Attorney General and the FCC? This to me sounds nothing more than a bait and switch, they advertise that they are going to offer channel "A" but after a month or two later they remove that channel and replace it with some other channel that customer doesn’t care for.
Ben: What are you smoking? who is stealing cable? read the question first.

how to set up TV on Win Vista Media Center?

I have 32 Bit Windows Vista Home Prem SP1. With Win Media Center I am trying to view TV programming on my PC using its own monitor as the TV display. This is a multimedia desktop (HP Paviliion) so it has all the goodies.

Before I proceed, I do NOT have cable, no satellite. With my regular TVs I get my programming from my rabbit ears. Also I’ve been hearing about a desktop box which I clearly don’t have.

So the question is, is there some way I can see TV programming on my PC with just regular TV antennas or do I need special antennas or this infamous desktop bo?. Cable and satellite are not options. Help!

Which satellite carrier is a better deal? We’ve had Dish Network for 6 years, but the receiver is broken. Do we purchase a new DishNetwork receiver and stick with them, or should we switch to DirecTV, who offers equipment/install/etc free of initial charge?

Thanks! Appreciate any advice on this one…it’s so frustrating.

Can they legally charge me for that? I am quite sure (as are other people) that the homeowner is trying to scam our company. The claim was originally WELL over ,000 and when my company counter offered them 00, they quickly bit. That sounds like a scam to me. Now my employer is telling me they are going to payroll deduct the 00. I am in Michigan. Can they do this? And if I don’t agree to let them, can they fire me. If I get fired over this, would I have legal recourse against the company? I cannot afford to lose my job…not that anyone really can…..

how do i remove icon from my task-bar ?

this all started when i downloaded satellite TV on desktop and google earth. my virus program is weighting a special cleaner, thanks

There are a few websites claiming that you can get satallite television on your PC. However, they don’t tell you what channels are available. If you have any experience or advice I’d sincerely appreciate it. I’m thinking of getting it but would like to find out more before I commit. Thank you very much for anything you can offer!!

No sound while using playstation2 system on tv??

I have a home theater hooked up to my tv as well as my satellite service, which both have sound..but how come I can only get video when using the PS2?? Do I need a special cable for that??

i saw some offers on ebay and googled it. looks like some kind of real player download. i just moved and haven’t connected cable tv yet, looking into other options. 1000’s of channels on satellte tv thru the pc looks like a great deal, and they say only a one time fee and don’t need any dish or other hardware. has anyone used this yet? pros/cons/options? thanks a lot! :)

When i saw the adventures of sharkboy and lavagirl on payperview, i needed to connect some wires to be able to see it in 3D. If i live in canada and i watch disney channel on satellite, i need to know if i need to do anything to my tv so i will be able to see the movie properly.
i have glasses..all i wanted to know was if i needed connections…im not retarded

hi there,

i´ve recently found some site that offer me satellite TV (even american TV) through Internet. They only charge about 25 bucks once so i get their software and free to watch satellite through internet as long as i want. they also don´t provide a full list of the channels they are providing. and the sites look more or less like wannabe real professional sites.
therefore i´m afraid that it is scam - can any1 confirm?
i´m talking about sites like

Considering satellite TV service?

Because my cable bill has become so high and the cable company regularly treats customer poorly, I am considering switching to satellite TV. Considering the range of features and companies that now offer it, what company and programming package should I go with to get the most bang for my buck?

How does FTA Satellite work? Is it too difficult?

I am shopping for a new satellite TV solution and don’t want to go through DirectTV or Dish Network. There are several FTA ‘dealers’ that have offered me their services.

Does this FTA (Free to Satellite) actually work? What are your experiences with it and is that going to become a big daily task to keep updating the satellite?

If you look at your on screen guide, you will find that included in your "Choice" package offered by DirecTV, you will find that you are getting a lot of channels that do not offer entertainment to most people. Just to name some of them: 40 shopping channels (many of them duplicates), 5 "Test" channels (those not in service), 28 "To Be Announced" channels (only available certain times of the year), 22 duplicate Game Lounge channels, 1 channel dedicated to ordering DirecTV’s magazine, 1 channel dedicated to ordering DirecTV’s program packages, 5 channels dedicated solely to the imposition of tax increases on satellite TV in different state (all of which are duplicate stations), 3 Pay Per View Preview channels, 3 duplicates of channel 101, one channel dedicated to an advertisement of DirecTV’s DVR and one channel dedicated to showing you how to operate DirecTV’s equipment. I live in a very remote area in Arizona where there is no cable and an antenna is blocked by mountains. The only way to have television service is by satellite, there isn’t any other form of entertainment except to shoot rattlesnakes, which do not come by constantly. No, the "Choice" package is not the consumer’s choice, it is DirecTV’s marketing department that chooses what you will watch (or not). My question is do you get what you pay for when you subscribe to DirecTV?

i am about to go on a flight for the first time with them and had a question

with their directv/xm satellite radio do you hvae to have special headphones like on most airlines or will any headphones do?

is the xm part of the tv screen?

do you have a remote control or is it built in the arm rest etc…?

thanks!

Tell me anything you want about your cable provider.
Do you have frequent black outs.
Does your bill go up each month?
Do they offer the latest products.
Do you have internet with them too?
