PC Hardware Archives

i downloaded halo trial but it says "we are sorry, but your computers video hardware is below minimum spec for this game. If you wish to upgrade your computer, please contact your computer manufacturer for any necessary assistance." Then it says "machine info: 2700MHz, 1024MB, 64MIntel 845 (0×2562)"
I am only thirteen so if you could explain it as easy as possible that would be great. Do i need to buy a whole new computer or is it possible just to upgrade video hardware?

I already know the answer, let see if you do.
4 year old HP desktop. You hit the "on" button, and the PC comes on for exactly 3 seconds and then shuts off.
This happens each time you turn it on.
What is wrong?

Need a hint?
For the short time the PC stays on, the fan in the power supply is turning….then slows to a stop.
Ok….if you said bad power supply…WRONG.
If you said dust and dirt and gunk around the fan…BINGO!!!
WE HAVE A WINNER!!!.
( This actually happened to me. I vacuumed all the gunk out, and it ran fine after that.)

I suspect there is hardware failing somewhere in my computer and I was about to begin using the different test programs available for testing the different hardware components (like memtest), but I was wondering if anyone can suggest any good tools or programs that can run a full test of all PC hardware for potential and existing problems. Do there exist any single program that scans your hard drive, motherboard, system memory, and peripheral cards (video, audio, network, etc.) for potential and existing problems?

Thanks for all your help in advance!

Need to transfer old computer software from an IBM AS 400 advanced 3 G Hardware to Modern PC is this possible? This is an OLD Computer! It makes the lights blink when it runs. An engineering company has given me the task of removing some old engineering program. The software, what ever it is predates dos. It takes about 7 minutes to boot and probably weighs 100+ pounds. It features huge plugs and only displays green text no colors here ha ha ha. Any references? Ideas? Thoughts? Oh and I think its some kind of cobalt, basic, fortran, or some language I’ve never used…It also features a big floppy drive.

I was just wondering that if theres any "computer hardware engineer" who can really help me become one.
I will try anything to become one (academically).

I just need one that i can have a conversation with, one that will help me in the future, and maybe i will work with them sometimes.
Any nice computer hardware engineer’s.
-thank you for your time
p.s I am currently in high school majoring in "pc services".

How will I make my iPOD work with my computer. I would like download music.

If I run windows on a Mac, is my computer just as susceptible to viruses as a regular PC running windows? I am not totally positive what makes a computer vulnerable to viruses, an OS or the computer hardware itself?? TIA.

It was installed by the computer and it appears in Device manager. It just doesnt appear on My Computer.

I know a bit about computer hardware but I dont have enough knowledge about the hardware of a PC. Does anyone know any good guides (free ones) which are available online ,meant to be followed in a specific order?
I tried howstuffworks.com but I dont know where to start because they are all separate explanations.

one computer on 5 pc hardware?

Crucial.com RAM finder doesn’t state whether it is low or high density RAM. What is the difference and which is best for a Compaq Presario 2596US notebook?

PC games always force you to upgrade your PC hardware, but some people insist on playing computer games with their PC.
What is your opinion about this?

OK so my computer did this about 6 months ago and I haven’t really touched it since. I know a little about computers but I’m no wiz.

When I try and start my computer I get a black start up screen that says at the top: We are sorry for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
It then goes on to list the startup options (start in safe mode, start windows normally, etc.) All of those options take me to a blue screen error. It reads:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Check to make sure any hardware or software is properly installed…It then goes on to say:

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

I have not recently installed any new hardware and the only software recently installed was The Sims Deluxe Edition, about a month prior to its crash. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Ok, I was trying to create my own PC for gaming and was trying www.cyberpowerpc.com (I read reviews and they appear very reliable.) I found a special and customized it myself. Check it out :D

Ok, maybe some good games to compare this too could be Call of Duty 4 or any other high end graphic game out there. I tried my best with my little knowledge I have on the hardware. Hopefully this will work out well, my birthday is coming up and I plan to buy myself something nice :D

I'm pretty sure that image shows the main components that actually matter, so now I just need that person to give me the go :D

Thanks,
Kyle S.
