Dedicated Servers In General?

I am currently experimenting with dedicated servers and I am just about to purchase one as I would like to run game servers from it.

I don’t know anything about dedicated servers when it comes to the software side of things. The company I am using offers you a Windows or Linux solution, I am going with the Windows solution as the games I would like to run servers from, run on Windows.

Now this is where I am confused, what type of windows system do I want to use? Webserver 2008 web edition or standard?

Once I have picked web edition or standard it also asks if I would like to addon cpanel at an extra cost. Do I need cpanel or can I run servers just from webserver 2008? Also what else can I use instead of cpanel?

Any guides you have on running a server would also be beneficial as I dont know how to run multiple UT2004 game servers for example from a dedicated server?

Many thanks for the help!

Is this dedicated server any good?

I’m wanting to buy a dedicated server but Im not sure if the specs are any good..

What’s the best hosting company for my website?

Min Requirements: unix,php,mysql,phpmyadmin,cpanel,pop3, 70GB of disc space, 2GB ram, SSL cert for ecommerce, get about 30k visits/mo, 639 kb/s and 186GB/mo used. I’m currently paying 0/mo for a dedicated server, but it’s an old box, slow and too expensive. Important to have support who monitors server status/updates and they will fix if it ever goes down and will notify me with email communication. Any hosts you recommend?

hosting website with yahoo hosting?

i currently host my website with ipower and they suck, really slow and they dont have a Cpanel, just the old Vdeck, support sucks. im looking for a server good enough to handle large amount of traffic and data transfer, currently my biggest issue is speed, i want it very fast but not yet ready for dedicated hosting. What do you guys think about hosting with yahoo?

In your experience which hosting companies are good and very fast?

How to setup a web server in a Data center?

I’ve been doing web dev for a few years now with my sites being hosted on a shared server.I’m getting a dedicated machine, but a voice in my head is saying "do it yourself." I’ll have my own server & a possibility of having resellers.

My educational background is in Sys Admin,so I have a understanding of what’s needed to setup, secure & maintain systems, but I still need some info.

I’ve come up with a very basic plan of what I think is required:

1. Get a server + setup software (Debian / Redhat + Antivirus? + Network Security? + PHP / MYSQL etc + Cpanel / WHM)
2. Find a data center
3. Find a Teleco to connect the server to the net
4. Maintain system (security+performance) with patches & software updates

Although I need to do more research for step 1 & 4,my main concern is 2 & 3.What do I ask the DC & Telco?Do I setup the server offsite, then send it to the DC for them to connect,or do I personally go in & do it myself? When calling the Telco, what info should I have on hand?

I’m looking for a dedicated VPS Hosting with cPanel and 2 IPs. The cheapest I’ve found is in the -0 range… Is there anything cheaper out there?

I want to register a private domain but don’t know what company to get. Yahoo is a dedicate server that i trust a lot. Because i want my domain name to be, .com and info. I heard that godaddy is very cheap but i never used it before and don’t even know it. I am newbie at this ok, so once i buy my domain name how do i use it on cpanel 11. I am using private, because it seems like its more secured and keeps your personal information non visible to public, and i want to have that domain name for multiple years, but then i will buy more domain names. So in conclusion my question is, what is the cheapest between yahoo and godady and what is more reliable and secured.

I just started with a Virtual-Dedicated Server yesterday, created my cpanel account, created my ftp account, logged in, and uploaded some files to my public_html directory. However, when I try viewing anything I’ve uploaded (by going to http://server-ip/file_name in a browser), I get a "Not found" error! My FTP program says the files are there, and cpanel’s file-manager says they’re there, but my browser can’t view them! Any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong?

My index page is still the default cpanel-place-holder page, even though I uploaded a new index.html. My domain name hasn’t been changed yet to the new server, so I’m trying to view my site by typing in its IP address into the browser, rather than its domain name.

Additionally if it helps, cpanel said:

"The hostname (box.my-domain.com) resolves to . It should resolve to "my-ip". Please be sure to correct /etc/hosts as well as the ‘A’ entry in zone file for the domain."

Thanks for reading my question.

2 server configuration will look something like below. I heard that the 32bit kernel is better for the web server since I’ll have cpanel on it. Anyone able to confirm this or should I just put 64bit on both of them?

Web Server
5420 2.5GHz (Dual QuadCore)
2×250GB SATA2 (RAID1)
2GB RAM

DB Server
5310 1.6GHz (Clovertown, DUAL processor)
2×73GB SAS (RAID1)
4GB RAM

i have a dedicated server, i have a cpanel webhosting manager, i change the password for a domain, but when i try to login into the domain using ftp the password wont work, whats going on

Unmanaged dedicated server questions?

Hello, I am considering starting a website that will require a dedicated server the thing is that I would much much rather an unmanaged server to a managed one simply because a managed server is soo much more expensive.

The problem I have is that I have never before administered a server of my own with such depth and control over it and the extent of my knowledge is an account with a shared host.

The site will only be using a small php script and I couldn't imagine any intensive changes to the server ever being needed.

My question is would you recomend me getting an unmanaged server?

Are they difficult to administer?

Can you learn how to administer one just by having one?(exerience)

Are they as daunting as they sound?

Are there any guides out there for how to manage a fedora core 6 server with WHM and Cpanel? (Links Please)

How could someone administer a server without having a control panel(cpanel/whm)?
Sorry I was not trying to compare dedicated to shared but to give an example of the depth of my knowledge, although I have run a webserver before on my own computer it isn't quite the same because i am using windows xp.

The reason it needs to be dedicated is because the site will be cpu/ ram intensive. I dont want to go into detail about the site although I'm sure people can draw their own conclusion not that it is necessary.

Also where do people learn this stuff without going to an education establishment and taking a course in it?

cpanel and phpmyadmin?

Im using cpanel whm for my dedicated server. And I added a user to access cpanel so they can install a script on my server. But now that there done installing the script I want to delete their account.

My question is this:

By me deleting their cpanel account, will this also delete their mysql username and password for the database they created?

By me deleting their cpanel account, will this also delete the database they created?

The cpanel username is john, and the database they created is "john_database"

How do I get it to just SEND mail from the server directly? Experience with cPanel and Linux needed … thanks in advance
