i have a laptop running the windows xp home edition OS. i am currently having problems with the sound not working. having used the help and support from the start menu, i have noticed there is no volume control program present in start>programs>accessories>entertainment.

does anyone know if it is possible to reinstall this program, and if so, where would i find it?

It's urgent. I am going to buy an HP notebook. I am cofused for its 2701 and 6703 models. Latter one has better specs- 2 GB RAM, NVIDIA 8400M GS 256 MB than the first one- 1 GB RAM, NVIDIA 8400M GS 128 MB. Rest of the features are same and good for me. DV6703TX will cost me Rs 2000 or more than another one. Ok, this is concerning my daughters computer tower.. About a year ago she was having a problem with it turning on, so a new power supply was put in it. It worked fine for a little while, but then when we tried to shut it down, it would shut down, but the fan and power light were alwasy running. The fan would not stop running unless we unplugged it. So we moved to another state and bought my daughter a laptop, and stored the computer. Now I want to give my mom and dad the computer and all its accessories, but it wont power on at all. They can make use of the monitor, keyboard, and mouse etc.. but the tower is what controlls all this stuff.. Can anyone give idea on what might be wrong… I know nothing about computers, but I can relay the information to my mom and dad to have someone fix it. Thanks to all the help.. The donation to my parents is a great deal if we can get this working..
ok I cleaned it out and I just got it to power on the then I shut it off, but the fans (2) are still running.. I unplugged it. Its not hooked up or anything, I just wanted to see if I could poer it on after cleaning it..

I need help in a couple areas. First and important, I need to know if I should try to hurry up and have a cord sent to me before my flight, in 6 days, to Spain, and wonder why I forgot to seek an adaptor from HP is that necessary, or will a common adaptor there be enough? To use the battery cord I don't know if I'm calling it the right word — the cord that charges the computer up from the wall, so you can use it WIFI …I'm a dinosaur trying to get hip. I also need to know if its better, generally to try to find an HP store itself to buy products, or do it online, what's better? I hope I don't need any equipment, but if I don't have the correct cord, how could I get equipment sent to me quickly, ASAP to say, Spain, or perhaps Italy, either. Another thing that could be reason to take care of where I purchase, or how, is I don't speak the local language well, maybe where I go there will not be very fluent in English, and I am sadly not fluent in theirs …. but I thought buying might help ingratiate myself to the locals which wuold be nice in itself.
